It was earlier this month I attended No Depression Night, hosted by the Seattle Center. This event showcased some unknown, but steadily growing in popularity bands. The lineup went as followed; Fly Moon Royalty, Legendary Oaks, Sallie Ford and Sound Outside, and the main reason for my attendance to this event, Shovels and Ropes. While I hold appreciation for lineup as a whole, the standouts to me were Shovels and Ropes. Below I’ve highlighted each band, these bands are worth the time to check their music.
[about] Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside traveled North from the where they originated, Portland Oregon. Lead by female vocalist, this band has a 50’s style think rockabilly. This group drew the attendees of the event, mainly the hipsters to gather in front of the stage and dance to their up beat rock melodies.

[about] A duo consisting of a female vocalist and DJ to achieve Electro-Soul sound. Lead singer Adra Boo draws inspiration is drawn from everyday life. Their songs reflect her inspiration. Other inspirations include the golden era of hip hop as well as a deep feel of 60’s influenced jazz.

[about] I agree with critics classification of this native band; “They play music containing elements of alt-country and folk, but they approach it with a rowdy attitude reminiscent of the ragged punk bands of the ’80s” You can read more about the band at KEXP’s site.

[about] Shovels and Ropes is best classified as Folk Rock. This charming duo consisting of two guitars, a junkyard drum kit , a handful of harmonicas, and voices sticks with a simple philosophy, keep it simple. All the way from Charleston, South Carolina, they provided the authentic feel of Southern rock and roll. They just released a new album, O Be Joyful.
