I attended the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival at Saint Edwards State Park this past Sunday (June 24) This event was put together by Skandia Folkdance Society. The event stayed true to the Swedish celebration. There were attendees in traditional folk costume. There was a parade prior to the highlight of the event, the garlanded maypole (majstång) was raised successfully that afternoon. There was a stand to make your own floral crown (midsommarkrans) and traditional midsummer food was offered. Music and dancing stayed constant through the day.
It was a great event, it brings me happiness to know that traditions live on.
