St. Demetrios Greek Festival, September 2013

This weekend is the St. Demetrios Greek Festival. Based in the Montlake, at the neighborhood’s Orthodox Church. I attended the event for the first time last year. I attended for two reasons, 1. I love learning about cultural 2. I love baklava (better than cake, cupcakes, donuts, etc.)  The event had me feeling like a Greek for the day. The festival offered traditional Greek food, music and dancing. I felt welcomed and was able to have a delicious slice of homemade baklava.  The highlight from the day was the dancing, performed by students from the local schools. Separated out by age group, each performance was wonderful. It was great to see the Greek cultural being ingrained in the youth.

I am attending this year as well. I look forward to the sights, sounds and of course baklava.
