I was first introduced to the Nutcracker by my father. He would play intermission for the Delaware Ballet. I attended these performances for several years until I moved West. Wanting to continue the tradition of watching the Nutcracker during the Christmas season, I asked the locals about the Nutcracker show local to Seattle. I was told of the Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) performance of the Nutcracker at McCaw Hall. I purchased a ticket and anxiously awaited what I was told that “I was in for an amazing show.”
The show lived up to it’s reviews. The performance was amazing. The ballerinas and ballerinos were flawless. The orchestra didn’t miss a chord. The visual presentation was magical. Bravo to Artistic Director Kent Stowell and author/illustrator Maurice Sendak – writer of Where the Wild Things Are. The set design along with the costumes made this performance of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker by far, my favorite.
