While I only have attended one festival this summer, I have a pretty good take on festival fashions this season. Mass style publications provide a simple step by step process for the public to follow. See: Instyle’s, what the ‘star’s wore’ Some of these popular fashions made an apparance at the Northwest Folklife Festival. Granted that this is a folk festival, like folk music, folk style has stayed true to it’s roots.
With a camera on hand, I photographed some festival-goers.
The sundress
Denim on denim, can’t say that this a favorite style. It’s reminiscent of the 1980’s, especially when paired with Chucks.
A nod to hats, a timeless accessory.
Sweater over a dress, a well put together ensemble.
Tie-dye, limit this pattern to accessories, when worn in a dress, it can quickly become an eyesore.
A knit sweater is always a good choice.
Another case of a flashback of the 1980’s with the addition of bleach blond, super straight hair. I don’t think anyone can pull of this look, nor should anyone try.
This generations take on the ‘hippie look’, I think the picture speaks for itself. I have nothing positive to say so I will leave it at that.
Maxi dress and long cardigan, a simple and classy look.
Gypsy-inspired look.
This will be a topic that I bring up often, appropriate dress. I can’t place full blame on the individual for what they wear since a majority are just replicating what they see in popular magazines and film, but one does have personal responsibility for what the wear/represent. Shame on these sources for promoting these styles as ‘cool’.
1. Short shorts, why feel the need to show this much skin?
2. Uggs, next to Crocs, one of the ugliest shoes on the market.
3. Low cut jeans, Britney Spears helped to popularize these, doesn’t that say enough?
Do yourself and the public a favor, keep the yoga pants strictly to the yoga studio.
