Of ‘Easter baskets’, candies, bunnies, and eggs. I have good memories of Easter with family; dyeing eggs, egg searches, and baskets filled with candy. But since childhood I’ve been asking myself this question, what does this have to do with Easter?
I gave my boyfriend a candy basket this morning. The seasonal activity of creating an ‘Easter basket’ around this time of year provided me with the idea to give my candy-loving boyfriend full stock. As I said, even through childhood I never understood why my parents gave my sisters and I ‘Easter baskets’, had us dye eggs, hide and seek after them. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the goodies and these activities, but questioned the reason for such gifts and why to participate in these activities. In Sunday school I was explained the reason for the celebration of Easter. I couldn’t connect the two. This still perplexed me as an adult until I took the time to do research on why modern society focuses so much on candy, chocolate, eggs, and bunnies. Dyeing’Easter eggs’ I picked up a package of Paas egg dye kit thinking, this would be a fun (but lame) activity to do together. The more I thought about it, the more I questioned why would I waste my time with such a thing. The kit will be donated back to the consignment shop where I originally picked it up.
To conclude, tomorrow is Resurrection Sunday. Click to read a well written statement about the day.
“The resurrection of Jesus is the culmination of all things meaningful, faith and fact, in establishing a relationship with God.”
